Spanish Falangists held their gathering on October 12 in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, when they were attacked by anti-fascist protesters. The event, organized by the Falange Española de las JONS to mark Spain’s National Day (Día de la Hispanidad), was secured by the Basque police. However, the Basque anti-fascist counter-demonstrators swiftly broke through the thin police line.

The HVIM spoke with one of the leaders of the Falange Española de las JONS, the organizers of the event, about the street clashes that unfolded.
What was the purpose of the demonstration in Vitoria?
The demonstration in Vitoria on October 12 was convened to celebrate Día de la Hispanidad.
Who organized the demonstration, and which organizations took part?
The sole organizer of the demonstration was the Spanish Falange of the JONS. No other organizations or political parties participated.
What occurred during the demonstration?
Upon arriving at the square—where a fully authorized and legal event was scheduled—anti-fascist protesters breached the police cordon. This security measure proved ineffective, allowing the protesters to reach the Falangist attendees. Consequently, we were required to repel the aggression, which was aimed at disrupting the event.
Who were the attackers? Was this the first time a Falangist demonstration has been attacked?
The groups that targeted the Falange demonstration are primarily affiliated with the terrorist group ETA, far-left political parties, and a significant number of far-left hooligans and ultras from Basque football teams.
This was not the first time our demonstrations have been attacked. Counter-demonstrations are frequently organized against us in the region. Typically, the Falange maintains its own security cordon and is prepared to repel any aggression. Such incidents have occurred before and will likely occur again; however, this will not deter us from public mobilization or from promoting our ideas anywhere in Spain.
Were there any injuries or arrests?
There were injuries on both sides, with the most serious ones occurring among the anti-fascist protesters, as our security cordon is trained to handle such situations. A total of 19 individuals from the anti-fascist side were arrested for breaching security protocols and entering a restricted area.
The members of the organization consciously prepare for such situations.
What are your plans for the future?
In the coming weeks, the Falange will initiate appropriate political and legal actions against the Basque Government and the Basque Police for their dereliction of duty, as well as against all the individuals who participated in the aggression on October 12th.
The Falange Española de las JONS was among the national organizations that took part in the founding of the International Sovereigntist League (ISL Paladins) in St. Petersburg this September.
Representing Hungary, the HVIM attended the event, which hosted twenty organizations from fifteen countries across three continents. According to their account, the gathering provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with members of the Spanish organization.

As they said, there was no shortage of common ground: just as the Falangists fight their battles in the streets of Spain, so does HVIM wage its struggle at home against masked Antifa attackers. The Spanish Falangists also expressed their gratitude for HVIM’s earlier action, when the Hungarian organization protested in front of the Spanish Embassy in Budapest against the desecration of José Antonio Primo de Rivera’s grave.
